Joining a Movement Already in Progress

Just over a year into this ambitious project, it's clear that a community is gathering to participate in the vision of reaching "Every Kid" in the city of Toronto. I believe that we in Young Life are joining an already existing movement of people in this city: people who care about teenagers and who want to make a difference in their lives in the name of Jesus. Thank you for being a part of this community, and a part of this effort.

  • Edith, our new staff person in Upper Jarvis, continues to make connections and build relationships with churches and organizations who are connected to the needs of young people downtown. She has a small, but growing list of teenagers that she knows, and is pursuing ways to serve young people by being present--what Young Life calls "Contact Work."

  • Young Life Toronto has new office space, on the campus of Tyndale University on Bayview avenue. Over the past year, we have made many fruitful connections with faculty, staff, and students at Tyndale. In addition to giving us workspace for our growing team, these offices put us right in the middle of a community of people where important connections can continue to grow.

  • On September 16, we will be holding our first event for young people, a rooftop BBQ in Midtown with view of the city. Although we don't have Young Life ministry fully formed yet in this part of the city, we have gotten to know a number of high school students from Midtown and the Don Valley that we wanted to get together. Please be praying for this event, I look forward to sharing how it went in our next update. We have three more weeks to take advantage of a significant matching gift offer.

  • On August 30, we held our very first training class for Young Life leaders. 18 interested people have registered for the class, which runs from August through January. In our first class, we covered the foundation of everything we do in Young Life: our relationship with Jesus Christ. As we introduce teenagers to Jesus Christ and help them grow in their faith, it is important for us as leaders to cultivate a vibrant trust in Jesus that permeates our lives. Pictured below are some of our class participants, along with John Wagner (foreground), Vice President for Young Life Global Cities.
